NAS BRUNSWICK MAIN BASE REALIGNMENT AND CLOSURE (BRAC)

Between 2008 and 2010, over 3,000 military and family members will transition from NAS Brunswick, ME, which is closing due to the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) 2005 recommendation. The military will relocate its aircraft along with dedicated personnel, equipment and support to Naval Air Station Jacksonville, FL. Military spouses may be eligible for a number of employment programs (see below).

UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION

Access to Florida Unemployment Compensation via http://www.FLUIDnow.com. Information on how to file unemployment compensation claims for other states. Active-duty military spouses may be eligible for unemployment benefits if resignation from last job was due to a military transfer. Inquire with individual state agencies for further information.

SPOUSES TO TEACHERS (STT)

Spouses to Teachers is a pilot project in six states, including Florida, designed to assess the needs of military spouses relative to becoming a teacher. The program provides support to spouses of active duty military and selected Reserves in their pursuit of K-12 teaching positions in both public and private schools in the U.S. The STT website provides information and useful links for those military spouses interested in a teaching career. http://www.spousestoteachers.com/
